What is consciousness?
We may evolve through 3 levels of consciousness—all are about being lost.
Illusion is the first level, the predominate state of the world. We believe most everything we have ever been taught; we rarely question anything. We are so lost we have no awareness of being lost. We believe who we are is our thinking; we are obsessed with time and often feel fearful, stressed and anxious; we are asleep, unconscious of our ego mindset which totally controls how we think, feel, and act.
Search begins when our programmed conditioning crashes, caused by a crisis of identity, a failure of success, a state of suffering or depression. We become aware we have been asleep and lost and are now desperate to be found. We open our minds to change, to learn how to be free of suffering. This is a time of confusion, disorientation, and wondering about our sanity. We seek help from others who have awakened and for discovering who we really and truly are.
Enlightenment is an awakened consciousness of being. We are blissfully aware, open, free, and present. We are lost, but joyfully so, having realized life is a wonderful mystery, in which nothing is known but this moment.
